Two of the three Australian ‘red-breasted’ robins occur in this area. Only the males are red breasted; the females are mostly brown. The Scarlet Robin is similar to the Flame Robin, but is darker with red on the breast only.

The near threatened Flame Robin, migrates annually across Bass Strait. It feeds on insects, pouncing on prey from a perch in a tree or from a fence post or a thistle. Pairs usually remain together for life and lay 3-4 speckled green-white eggs in a deep nest.
